Frequently Asked Questions

What’s this festival all about?

The Bay City Main Street is hosting the 4th annual Wild Game and Wine Camofest on January 26, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.  The festival honors native son, world-renowned painter, Forrest Clemenger Bess, 1911-1977.  During WWII, while serving in the Army Corps of Engineers, Forrest received a commendation for creating camouflage.

Bay City’s Main Street program is dedicated to the preservation of our historic downtown district. This is accomplished through a multifaceted approach, one of which is promotion of our downtown. The Wild Game and Wine Camofest is designed to introduce new people to our downtown and highlight Matagorda County’s natural beauty and bounty.

New to this year’s event is a Wolf Moon concert beginning at the end of the Camofest activities.

Cooking “guides” provide samples of locally caught wild game, fish and fowl at the Wild Game Cooking Camp, while regional wineries will offer samples of Texas wine. (Tickets required) If game and wine are not your forte’, there will be plenty of beer and great Texas food for sale!

You’ll also be able to purchase wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, merchandise and more. Whether certain booths accept credit/debit cards will at the discretion of the vendors. There are ATMs near the festival site but make sure to bring plenty of cash so you don’t miss out on any fun!

How much is it to park, and where should I park?

Parking is free. We recommend getting downtown early, since parking is spread out in all directions. You assume all risk and responsibility on where you park. Please refer to the map on the bottom of the Schedule page for suggested parking areas.

Can we bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc.?

Of course! Please keep in mind that if you bring them and use them for the concert, it will be extremely crowded and we want everyone to have a great time and be as close to the stage as possible. Plus, we think you should stand for killer music anyway.

NOTE: Lawn chairs will NOT be allowed in the trophy room area or directly in front of the stage. This area is standing room only in order to give everyone a chance to dance. There will be a seating area for VIPs on the courthouse mezzanine. This will be strictly enforced by security during the festival.

Will food be available other than wild game camp and wine harvest food?

Yes, there are several restaurants located in Downtown Bay City and there will be several food trucks at the festival.  Please refer to the event map for their locations.

What can I NOT bring?

Outside food, drinks or coolers. Pets (service animals are welcome, of course.) Drugs. Vegetarianism and bad attitudes.

What should I bring?

Bring the party. And sunglasses. And a hat and gloves, just in case its cold. And, of course cash!

Can children attend?

Absolutely! This is an all-ages event, including the concert. Children under five are not required to buy a Wild Game Camp ticket.

Do you have a warning for minors?

Probably not a “frequently asked” question, but we have to say it. Since alcohol will be served at this event, everyone will be asked to show identification to prove age at the front gate and the beer ticket tent. Minors will be given a special wristband and will be stamped as a minor on their hand. Attendees 21 or older also will have a special wrist band. A minor or any person not wearing a wristband seen consuming alcohol will be escorted out of the festival. And while wristbands will be given before you are able to go to the bar, bartenders can and will ask to double-check your identification to prove your age.
